“Dance like the photo’s not being tagged. Love like you’ve never been unfriended. Sing like nobody’s following. Share like you care. And do it all like it won’t end up on youtube!”
This is a modern media take on the classic quote:
“Work like you don’t need the money. Love like you’ve never been hurt. Dance like nobody’s watching.”
Both express something to strive for — a complete release of our concern for what others think of us. It’s in doing so that we can listen to our inner guide and find our authentic lives.
I love this idea, but it is hard to let go and not care about what others think. Somehow the modern take on the quote does not have the same feeling for me. I find myself thinking, “what if someone does post it on the internet and my students see it?” Having a video seems much more permanent than just having someone watch you dance in person and that makes me more self-conscious.
