How do you source your power?

January 8, 2015 By brittandreatta

Day 3 of the Finding Your Flow meditation is about power and tuning in to the universal source of energy for yours. That it is in being connected to this true source where you will finding the peace of knowing you alway have it, no matter what.

For us souls@work, this is a good reminder because our work environments are all about “power” (quotes intentional).  The hierarchy of any organization is really a roadmap of authority — who gets to have what say. The higher in the organization, the more authority you have to make decisions, and you usually get more perks like better salaries and nicer offices. And more money allows you to buy more things that we see as symbols of “power” like fancy cars and big homes.

I teach about organizational power in my courses and consulting practice and a big part of business acumen is learning to accurately read that network of authority.  There is value is knowing who has what authority and being successful often relies on your ability to navigate those complex relationships and dynamics.

But real power — authentic power — is not something someone else hands you with a job or title, and it can’t be taken away either. Authentic power lives within you as strength, something you can draw on for a lifetime through all kinds of challenges. It lives within you as peace knowing that you are loved and have been graced with this life for a higher purpose that only you can fulfill. It lives within you as kindness that can uplift others around you.

So go through your work day and pay attention to power. Are you noticing authority (for the person who holds it for the moment), or authentic power that stems from a deeper, pure source? And notice who in your workplace is sourcing which kind of power.

Tell me, what did you notice?

Namaste.

"Britt is a gifted facilitator, period. Whether in a large group setting or one-to-one, she guides in a way that keeps focus and structure while allowing for and encouraging spontaneous discovery. She knows the power that lies in the process itself, and creates an environment that encourages personal insight to emerge. I have benefitted greatly from some deep discoveries that have occurred in one-to-one and small group settings with Britt."

"Facilitating change, transformation and the realization of our authentic selves is clearly one of Britt’s many gifts and callings. Britt consistently brings kindness, compassion and a tireless commitment to supporting people in going for their dreams. She is a talented group facilitator, an empowering life coach, and an inspiring public speaker and teacher. It has been a priceless gift having Britt’s support in my life."
