“There is a cry deeper than all sound
whose serrated edges cut the heart
as we break open
to the place inside which is unbreakable
while learning to sing.”
We all have moments that break us open to show us our inner strength. These journeys, often referred to as “the dark night of the soul” must exist in our lives to take us to a place we could not get to otherwise. While we may feel that everything else is broken, we see the enduring and wise spirit that lives within us. Once we get to the other side of the painful journey, the blessings become clear, and only then. If you are in such a journey, consider reading the wonderful book Broken Open: How Difficult Times Help Us Grow by Elizabeth Lesser.
