Day 18 of Finding Your Flow meditation is about expressing love. Oprah states, “Love is the most powerful force in the world.”
We all have access to that love and if we move from experiencing love… to being love… and then sending love, we can change the world.
We have all had a taste of this—when we are in the blush of falling in love with another person, we often feel that flood in our heart and send it to the other person, sometimes without conscious thought. When we become parents, our heart opens even wider and we often stand over their sleeping bodies, beaming love to our children. I just did this last night.
If we pray, we may already have a practice of sending love to friends and family, and people who we care about. There have been scientific studies that prove that this actually works. That when we intentionally send messages of wellbeing and love to others, it creates change. Learn more at The Intention Experiment.
We can use this same energy to change our workplaces. I have done this both as an individual employee as well as a leadership coach and consultant. When I open my heart energy and join with the flow of love in the universe, I first shift my own energy in a profound way. Any smallness, insecurity or judgement that I have falls away and I feel connected with a higher power.
When I enter into a room sending love to the others there, I can feel a more authentic connection occur and people start to relax and open up. It is very subtle but I have seen it time and time again. And I know many others who share this experience.
So I can say with confidence that it is not only possible but very effective to send love to colleagues, coworkers and customers. Try it. This week, connect to the powerful energy of love and then silently send it out to others at work.
It’s almost like when someone hums a song. Within minutes, you find yourself humming that song but you might not consciously remember hearing someone else humming it. In fact, my husband loves to do this. He will hum a catchy tune and then wait to see how many minutes, or even seconds, before me or our daughter or a co-worker starts humming it.
It’s the same with sending love. They may not be conscious of a shift but you will start to see the ripple effect. Perhaps they start to relax a little. Maybe they start to smile or talk. Or someone who usually is critical pauses and chooses not to say something.
Once you practice this, and see the effects, get more bold. Send bigger love—audacious love!—to more and more people. Send it to people in other cities, states and countries.
Send it to your boss, and his/her boss, and the CEO. For the five-star challenge, send it to people you don’t enjoy or even dislike. Rob Bell calls these people our “EGRs”—extra grace required. I love that!
Yes, send love to your EGRs and see what happens.
And if you want to be over-the-top powerful in your efforts, partner up with others to send love in tandem. The power of love energy is multiplied when we align with others. So if you two of you send love to the CEO or the customers, you will see an even bigger effect.
February is the month of love so this is the perfect time to get your love on!
Namaste.
